The two indexes
Nave's Topical Bible by Orville J. Nave and R. A. Torrey's New Topical Textbook are both in the public domain. We read them from the CrossWire SWORD modules Nave and Torrey, which are distributed as public domain.
Matching
- For each topic we take the Nave's entry and the Torrey's entry (or entries) with that subject, and expand every reference into single verses. A range inside one chapter becomes each verse in it; a range that crosses chapters counts only its first verse, so no long passage is pulled in by accident.
- A verse is shown only if it appears in both lists. The page states how many verses each index has and how many they share.
- The headings printed after "Torrey:" are the words of Torrey's own outline, quoted as they appear. We do not add headings, summaries or interpretation of our own.
- Where there are different traditions for counting or grouping a list (the Ten Commandments, for example), each is shown side by side without choosing between them.
The verse text
- King James Version, 1769 standard text, from the eBible.org file eng-kjv2006. Every quoted verse is compared word for word with a second public-domain KJV transcription before a page is built; the build stops if a quoted verse does not match the source file.
- Words the translators supplied are bracketed in the source file and shown in italics here.
- Pages quote verses for a topic or a list only. The full text of a book is not reproduced; book listings give chapter and verse counts.
